Pashinyan to attend SCO summit as guest

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit as a guest in the Uzbek city of Samarkand next week.

Uzbek presidential spokesperson Sherzod Asadov said that 15 world leaders will gather for the summit to be held on September 15-16.

“Next week, Samarkand will host the annual summit of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The event will be the first face-to-face meeting of SCO leaders since 2019 and will mark the end of Uzbekistan’s presidency of the organization,” Asadov said in a statement on Thursday.

The guests also include the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Turkmen presidents, he said, adding Belarus, Iran and Mongolia will participate in the summit as observers.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, China’s President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and others are among the attendees.
