MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction believes that Iran’s clear and tough statements on the security and territorial integrity of Armenia are primarily aimed at defending itself against Azerbaijan and Turkey.

“The two airports opened by Azerbaijan in the occupied Artsakh towns of Varanda and Kovsakan are more like a launch pad for strikes against Iran, rather than an opportunity to create routes for cargo transportation, passenger traffic from one part of Azerbaijan to another or transit routes,” the deputy wrote on Saturday.

He stresses that Iran’s massive military drills along its border with Azerbaijan in a show of power and its clear political statements are not accidental.

“Moreover, the occupied territories of Artsakh in the south, in the coastal areas of the Arax River, are an area of special interest for the intelligence and military agencies of countries hostile to Iran,” the MP said.

“Iran’s focus on Armenia’s security environment, clear and tough statements regarding the security and territorial integrity of Armenia are, first and foremost, aimed at self-defense, as Armenia, turning into a testing ground, becomes a new source of threats for Iran,” he added.
