The risk of new escalation and confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov told a meeting of the secretaries of CIS Security Councils in Moscow on Thursday, TASS reported.

“The events and incidents in our organization’s area of responsibility this year have shown the need to optimize the CSTO crisis response mechanism,” Semerikov said.

“At the instruction of the heads of CSTO member states, a package of documents on this issue has been prepared and is being agreed upon,” he added.
