Turkey does not need reason to attack any state: expert on possibility of Turkey’s aggression following Biden’s statement on Armenian Genocide

Expert on international affairs Suren Sargsyan does not think that Turkey will become more aggressive toward Armenia following U.S. President Joe Biden’s statement on the Armenian Genocide.

“The question is being raised whether Turkey will become more aggressive toward Armenia after Biden’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

1. I think no. Turkey may become aggressive without any reason. The 44-day war is an example of it. Libya, Syria, Iraq, Cyprus and Greece are examples. So, Turkey does not need a reason to attack any state. It has its own calculations, its interests and its large-scale independence.

2. Besides, what does Armenia have to do with Biden’s recognition? Biden promised its citizens – American-Armenians – they elected him and he kept his promise. He did not promise it to Armenia. So, let them [Turkey] become aggressive toward the USA,” Sargsyan wrote on Facebook, drawing the attention on the fact that the Americans managed the shock.

“They did it in a way not to shock Turkey. The shock may create unmanageable consequences. This is why two weeks before the whole American press was flooded with the information about the recognition. Moreover, a day before, Biden called and told Erdogan about his decision,” the expert wrote, agreeing Turkey’s not so tough response with that circumstance.

“At the same time they did not react toughly not to highlight the event for inner audience – to treat the recognition fact not seriously. They did not even recall the ambassador like they usually do,” he wrote.
