Parliament speaker in Moscow: Armenia is for exclusively peaceful settlement of Artsakh conflict

27 February 2019, 16:56 - NovostiNK
Armenia remains committed to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship based on the fundamental principles of the international law, in particular, the peoples’ right to self-determination, Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan said, speaking before Russian lawmakers.

“We highly appreciate Russia’s role as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country,” the speaker noted in his remarks at the plenary session of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly in Moscow.

He touched upon the participation of some Russian lawmakers in anti-Armenian campaign held in Azerbaijan on Tuesday, stressing the humanitarian component becomes even more urgent especially these days when Armenians all over the world commemorate the victims of the Sumgait pogrom perpetrated by Azerbaijan 30 years ago.

“The Sumgait pogrom paved way for further massacres of Armenians and large-scale ethnic cleansing. This has led to the mass expulsions of Armenians from Baku, Sumgait, Kirovabad and other towns,” he stressed.
